About
Upper Canada Solar Ltd. (UC Solar) was formed in 2006 to capitalize on two key external factors:
- Dramatic increases in the commercial efficiencies of solar technology
- The Ontario Government Standard Offer Program (SOP) for photovoltaic (PV) generation
The company established the first commercial solar testing facility in Ontario. Working closely with the Arizona Public Service facility in Tempe, Arizona, we established like protocols, testing procedures and installation techniques. Over the last 3 years, UC Solar has been designing, testing and building a full line of solar power trackers and matching them with panel and inverter technologies to maximize the system efficiencies, with the goal of achieving the highest output to lowest cost ratios.
One of the unique aspects of the F.I.T. Program regulations was the requirement that 50% of the components must meet new "Ontario Content" standards and this number moves to 60% by the end of 2010. This means that the trackers and mounting hardware must be manufactured in Ontario in order to participate in the program. As the only manufacturer of trackers in Ontario, this provides us with a tremendous opportunity.
